My friend Kelly sent this to me this week:
I am the Decisive Element
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element.
It is my personal approach that creates the climate.
It is my daily mood that makes the weather.
I possess tremendous power to make a life miserable or joyous.
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.
I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated, and a person humanized or dehumanized.
If we treat people as they are, we make them worse.
If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.

In the charged political atmosphere we find ourselves in these days, these words ring so very true. We have the power to make the world a more beautiful and positive place.
Is there some special someone who is helping you become capable of all you are becoming? If so, take a moment to say thanks.
Is there someone you can help to become all they are?
Who can we treat, including ourselves, with more tenderness, looking at who they truly are instead of where they are?
We have great personal power. It comes in the ability to change our minds.
May God be with us as we try.
